PRISCA Circle (Presbyterian Women)
"Praying together, reaching out to others, in the Spirit of Christ, always."
All women of John Calvin Presbyterian Church are invited to participate in all or any of our meetings and events. Meetings are generally held monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, in the downstairs lounge starting at 7:30 pm, September through June. Our meetings include Bible study discussions from the PW/Horizons Bible study booklet for the current year. Notice of our meetings is included at least 2 weeks ahead of time in the church bulletin.
We have a wonderful group of dedicated women and new participants are always welcome. Please join us!
Special events include:
September - Fall Gathering (last Saturday morning in September, rotates among various churches). Fellowship and sharing with the broader community of National Capital Presbytery; an overview of the new Bible study material, teaching suggestions as well as other community projects. Least Coin Offering.
December - Wrap/Warble/Wassail. Fellowship, Christmas devotional, singing, and bagging cookies for Shelter House families. We also contribute gift cards for Shelter House families. This event is normally held at a member’s home.
December – February – Prepare bag lunches for the Bailey’s Crossroads Homeless Shelter. This usually takes place on a weekday morning, 5-6 times each winter.
Year round – Fund Raising projects. Money raised is used to support Presbyterian Women mission projects such as assistance in constructing medical facilities in Kenya and support for Shelter House. We have held book sales, plant sales, silent auctions, craft fairs, and congregational lunches.
Prisca members also like to plan special fellowship trips, such as visits to Dumbarton Oaks, Merriweather Post Mansion, Frederick Douglas Historic Site, or Garden and Park events.
