2020 CROP Walk
INFORMATION FOR WALKERS- ANNANDALE CROP HUNGER WALK 2020
DATE/TIME: -Virtual walk Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. or walk another time
Thank you for walking! This year, we will have our first VIRTUAL walk in Annandale so that we can help meet needs around the world while avoiding spread of the COVID-19 disease. While the walk will be virtual, the need is very real for many people. We will not have an on-site opening ceremony, instead we will walk together but apart. We ask that you walk alone, with immediate family or in small groups walking a safe distance apart. Please join us at 9 a.m. on October 17 or whatever time is best for you. You can walk in your neighborhood, at Lake Accotink Park, at a park near you or in your own home.
People in developing countries walk every day to get food and water and go to school. The CROP Hunger Walk raises funds for Church World Service. CWS works with Christian organizations in other countries to fund hunger and disaster relief, refugee assistance and resettlement, and sustainable development projects like drilling wells and giving animals to families. CWS helps respond to disasters and fight poverty in the U.S. (see www.cwsglobal.org). CWS returns 25% of funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks to groups like the Annandale Christian Community for Action to help fight hunger locally. To learn about ACCA, see www.accacares.org.
We encourage you to register online for the CROP Hunger Walk and to invite donations online at https://www.crophungerwalk.org/annandaleva/JCPC. More details can be found in the instructions for online registration. Walkers sign up sponsors to donate to CWS. Once you have registered, you can use your walk page to send emails to potential donors. You can also use social media such as Facebook to invite donations. A donor who is giving online can designate his/her gift to a different international service agency.
If you expect to have sponsors who want to donate to CWS by check or cash, you can get an envelope and a donation tracking sheet from your team lead. Please enter your name, contact information and church or organization on your envelope. Please sign the waiver on the envelope, or if you are under 18, ask your parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Please list donation and sponsor information on the tracking form. Checks should be payable to CWS/CROP. You do not need an envelope if all your donations are made online. Please return your envelope and check/cash donations to your team lead by November 10. If you plan to mail your envelope to your team lead and you have cash donations, please convert the cash to a money order or check (stating “CROP Hunger Walk cash” on the memo line). If you do not walk or collect donations, please return the envelope to your team lead.
